Having traded with Questrade and reviewed their account structure, I can confirm that Questrade does not follow the common ECN or raw spread account models often found with other forex brokers. Instead, Questrade operates primarily as a market maker for forex and CFD products, and their platform is proprietary rather than using MetaTrader. From my experience, there is no additional commission per lot charged on their forex trades. Instead, the fee is built into the spread, which starts from as low as 0.08 pips. This approach has both advantages and drawbacks. For traders like me who use cost as a decisive factor, it's important to recognize that while there is no explicit per-lot commission, one should pay attention to the effective spread cost. I did not find a commission table resembling the "ECN/raw" model elsewhere; spreads are the main cost on forex. This also means the kind of tight spreads-plus-commission structure you might seek on an ECN platform—where you know the fixed cost per lot—is not available here. In my cautious view, for anyone seeking transparent ECN-style trading with clear per-lot pricing, Questrade might not be a perfect fit. However, I appreciate their regulated status in Canada and the absence of non-trading fees. I would recommend anyone considering Questrade make sure the spread-based structure matches your expectations for cost and transparency.
