The fact that Questrade is a Canadian broker, regulated under CIRO, does provide some initial reassurance, as Canadian oversight is generally thorough and favors client protection. In my own due diligence, I found their operations span over five years, and their legitimacy isn’t in question—there are no red flags around scams or fraud. In practice, I appreciated Questrade’s commission-free stock and ETF trades, and their broad product range—covering forex, CFDs, and many account types—made them accessible to a variety of trading strategies. Their proprietary platforms are generally stable, but I note several shortcomings: no MetaTrader support, no swap-free account options, and occasionally slow or unresponsive customer service, especially during periods of market stress or when requesting documents. Execution is mostly reliable, but there are sporadic complaints about re-quotes and minor disconnections, which, while not uncommon in the industry, could be frustrating for more active or high-frequency traders. The onboarding process is somewhat cumbersome, requiring more documentation than some global peers. However, I found account funding and withdrawals to be smooth, with no hidden fees—a point of comfort for me compared to less transparent brokers. Critically, while I haven’t encountered outright “tricks” or manipulation, the platform’s basic charting tools and the lack of advanced features (such as automated trading systems) leave something to be desired for more sophisticated approaches. Overall, I consider Questrade reasonably reliable for beginners and passive investors, but active forex traders seeking advanced tools and streamlined service might eventually outgrow its offerings. In this business, I believe conservatism is key; I would use Questrade with realistic expectations and always stay vigilant about changes in service or platform quality.
