That phrasing strongly suggests that Proton Markets offers variable spreads rather than fixed ones. In my experience, brokers who provide fixed spreads typically state exact, unchanging numbers, whereas variable spreads always use "from" to indicate that rates can widen depending on conditions. In terms of how these spreads behave during high volatility or major news releases, I have to proceed cautiously. With variable spreads—and especially with a broker lacking valid regulatory oversight, as is the case with Proton Markets—there’s an increased risk of spreads widening dramatically during news events or turbulent markets. I have seen spreads on such platforms spike well beyond quoted minimums when liquidity evaporates. For me, this uncertainty and unpredictability, particularly when trading news or during off-market hours, makes risk management much more difficult. Given their unregulated status and suspicious regulatory background, I personally would be very wary about how wide spreads could become during critical periods. Without a trustworthy regulatory framework, there are fewer safeguards to protect traders from potentially punitive spread widening when it matters most.
